We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to  this mission trip. Here is my story….

About two years ago, my mom discovered a mission trip opportunity to the country of Peru that lasted two weeks. I wasn’t able to go on it due to the fact that we had found it two days before the deadline for the application was supposed to be in. But as I was looking at the activities, pictures of the people there, and reading about the need in the country, I realized that there is more than an easy life in the United States.

There is more than getting good grades in schoolwork.

There is more than hanging out with friends.

There is more than finding a good college.

I realized that there are people all over the world who need to hear about Jesus’ love for them. They need to hear that through all their trials in life: the poverty, the sickness, the pain, that there is a Savior who died for them so that they could have a perfect life with him someday. I wanted to be that person to help bring the news to them. After coming to that conclusion, I have constantly been on the search for a mission opportunity to a foriegn country. In finding this trip to the Dominican Republic, God showed me that this was just a trip to show his love to a world who so desperately needs it.  The passage of scripture that confirmed this feeling was Matthew 28:18-20. It says,

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”

God assured me that he would be with me wherever I went to on the mission field, be it just down the street or all the way across the world. He wants me to help fulfill the great commission. What a wonderful thing to be a part of a plan that huge!

  1. I totally agree that we get way too comfortable here in the US and so often we can’t possibly imagine looking beyond our own circumstances in order to see the bigger picture of God’s people in the world. I do pray that this trip would expand not only your vision of the world, but also of who YOU are in Christ! Can’t wait to meet you!
