and help. This desire has been strengthened by my family which has always been
actively involved in serving God. Until I was about 6 my parents ran a Christian
camp and my grandparents ran the retreat center up the road, I have always been
shown a steady example of what serving God looks like. In junior high I
went on two short term mission trips to DenverSeattle
these became experiences where I learned the joy of serving others. The summer
before my junior year of high school I worked at Clydhurt Christian Ranch for
the whole summer. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. It was
there that I learned what it really meant to LOVE God and LOVE others, two
things that I will always have to work on but, learning what that was all about
started at camp. I also learned the struggles and triumphs that come from
working closely with other Christians.
I choose the topic modem slavery. It did not take long before the project
turned into a passion. The fact that there are still 27 million slaves in our
world today infuriates me. After doing this project I knew that I was called to
live my life out to serve God by helping people and trying to defeat some of
the injustices in the world.
this summer. For about a month we searched the internet for any possible trips
but none looked very promising. We thought we found one but it didn’t work
because we would have to leave before graduation. We kept praying and
kept looking we really wanted to go to Haiti for about a month. Two
of us ended up finding AIM separately and telling the other one about it. We
figured the Dominican
Republic was close enough to Haiti. After
about a week we prayed about it and decided to sign up.
